NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma has suffered a setback in its recruiting efforts as four-star wide receiver Brayden Allen announced his decommitment from the Sooners on Sunday. Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 185 pounds, Allen, a native of Lafayette, Louisiana, initially pledged his commitment to Oklahoma in October after switching from Tulane. He had chosen the Sooners over Colorado following visits to both universities on consecutive weekends.
Allen’s recruitment remains competitive, and he currently holds offers from 22 programs including LSU, which recently appointed former Mississippi coach Lane Kiffin. Allen was a significant target for Kiffin while at Mississippi and had attended the Sooners’ recent victory against the Tigers.
Just a few weeks ago, Allen visited Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he expressed his commitment to OU. However, as National Signing Day approaches this Wednesday, he appears to have reconsidered his options. Recruiting outlet Rivals reported that Allen has officially decommitted from Oklahoma and is likely to follow Kiffin to LSU.
The dynamic nature of college football recruiting can lead to rapid changes, and as programs shift with new coaching hires, it’s not uncommon for prospects like Allen to reassess their commitments. The Sooners will now have to focus on securing other top targets as they head toward Signing Day.
