Police in Scottsdale, Arizona, have announced the names of six individuals arrested following an assault on former NHL player Paul Bissonnette at a local restaurant over the weekend. Bissonnette, who is currently an NHL analyst, was attacked by a group at Houston’s, situated near McDonald Drive and Scottsdale Road.
The arrested individuals and the charges filed against them are as follows:
– Henry P. Mesker: Charged with misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct
– John G. Carroll: Charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct
– William J. Carroll: Charged with two counts each of misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct
– Danny Bradley: Charged with misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct
– Edward J. Jennings: Charged with misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct
– Sean M. Daley: Charged with felony aggravated assault and forgery, along with misdemeanor disorderly conduct
In a recent episode of the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast, Bissonnette recounted the incident, stating he was a frequent visitor of Houston’s restaurant and had just placed an order when he noticed staff members dealing with an escalating situation.
Feeling a sense of duty to assist the restaurant staff, he approached a group of men who were expressing frustration over being denied service. Bissonnette attempted to defuse the situation by informing the men that if they continued to harass the staff, matters could escalate. Unfortunately, this provoked a violent reaction, leading to a physical altercation both inside the restaurant and in the parking lot.
According to police reports, surveillance footage captured the scene, showing several men assaulting Bissonnette, with one individual, Daley, tackling him. Bissonnette described how he endured multiple kicks to his head and neck but managed to escape and seek refuge in a nearby CVS store.
Police later apprehended Daley at a nearby hotel, where they discovered a fraudulent military ID in his possession. Daley claimed to be visiting from Texas, having planned to leave shortly.
Bissonnette was evaluated at a local hospital but was confirmed to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries. All six men are facing disorderly conduct charges.
While the incident was troubling and highlighted the challenges of public safety, it also serves as a reminder of the importance of standing up for others in difficult situations. Promoting a culture of care and respect can help prevent such altercations in the future, fostering safer environments for everyone.
