Braves Name Walt Weiss New Manager, Signals Revival Plan

The Atlanta Braves have made an internal decision for their new managerial role, announcing today that Walt Weiss will take over as the team’s skipper. Weiss, who has served as the Braves’ bench coach for several years, will now step into a prominent leadership position.

At 61 years old, Weiss brings a wealth of experience from his playing days in Major League Baseball, where he was active from 1987 to 2000, with his last three seasons played in Atlanta. Following his retirement, Weiss transitioned into several roles, ultimately becoming the manager of the Colorado Rockies from 2013 to 2016. During his tenure, the Rockies faced challenges, finishing with losing records each season before Weiss resigned.

Weiss joined the Braves’ coaching staff in 2018, shortly before the team began to see success, culminating in a 90-72 season and their entry into the playoffs after several years of rebuilding. Under manager Brian Snitker, the Braves soared to six straight National League East division titles and celebrated a World Series victory in 2021.

Despite Weiss’s successful track record, the team encountered difficulties in the past year. The Braves finished with only 76 wins and a fourth-place finish in 2025, after slipping to a Wild Card berth the previous season. Several injuries and a suspension for Jurickson Profar adversely impacted the team’s performance. Nevertheless, Weiss takes over a squad still packed with talent, including stars such as Ronald Acuña Jr., Matt Olson, and Austin Riley.

President of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos now looks to Weiss to revitalize the team and restore its competitive edge. Over the last eight years, they have developed a close working relationship, leading Anthopoulos to trust Weiss with this important responsibility. The focus will also be on potential changes within the coaching staff, particularly regarding a new bench coach to fill Weiss’s previous role.

As Weiss embarks on this new chapter, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how he navigates the challenges ahead and leads the Braves back to prominence.
