Brandon Routh, known for his role as Superman in 2006’s “Superman Returns,” expressed his enthusiasm for the recent release of James Gunn’s “Superman,” encouraging fans to see the film. He took to Instagram to share his excitement and engage with fellow Superman enthusiasts at the Fanboy Expo in Nashville.

After viewing the new Superman film, Routh described his experience as enjoyable and emotionally impactful, stating, “It was a lot of fun… I cried no less than three times.” He particularly appreciated David Corenswet’s portrayal of Superman and resonated with the film’s family dynamics and poignant moments.

Despite the mixed reception of “Superman Returns,” Routh has maintained a positive outlook on the DC Universe and its potential, remarking, “A successful launch with this is just good for everybody who wants more of what DC has to offer.” He sees great opportunities for future explorations of various beloved comic book properties.

In addition to his Superman nostalgia, Routh is promoting his new project, “Ick,” a sci-fi horror comedy where he portrays Hank Wallace, a former high school football star turned science teacher who faces off against a threatening alien species. The film combines elements of horror, sci-fi, and coming-of-age comedy, set against the backdrop of 2000s music and humor.

Routh reflected on his own high school experiences, relating to his character’s journey of being ridiculed, offering insight that resonates with many who may have also felt out of place during their school years. He noted the deeper themes in “Ick,” suggesting the film addresses societal fears and challenges in a light-hearted manner.

“Ick” is scheduled for limited release in New York and Los Angeles on July 25, with a nationwide rollout following on July 27. Routh remains optimistic, saying, “I got a movie coming out and ‘Superman’ is also out. It’s a good summer.”

This article highlights the intersection of nostalgia and innovation in Routh’s career while showcasing the potential for DC’s future storytelling through exciting new projects.
