Nearly 29 years after the tragic murder of 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey in her Boulder, Colorado home, local police have reaffirmed their commitment to solving the case, which remains a “top priority.” Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn announced new efforts in the investigation during an annual update, emphasizing the importance of information from the public.

In the past year, investigators have collected new evidence and re-examined existing materials in hopes of uncovering new leads. The department has also conducted fresh interviews as part of their ongoing efforts to elucidate the case. However, specific details regarding the evidence tested and the individuals interviewed have not been disclosed.

The haunting mystery of JonBenet’s death began on the morning of December 26, 1996, when her parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, discovered a handwritten ransom note in their home and later found their daughter deceased in the basement. Autopsy results revealed that JonBenet had been sexually assaulted, strangled, and suffered a fractured skull. Additionally, unknown DNA was found under her fingernails and in her underwear.

The investigation has previously cleared the Ramseys and their son as suspects in 2008, with Patsy Ramsey passing away in 2006. Despite the years that have passed, Redfearn noted that he has met with the Ramsey family to share a unified goal of bringing JonBenet’s murderer to justice.

“We need any person with knowledge of this terrible crime to step forward,” Redfearn stated, urging potential witnesses or accomplices to reach out.

Individuals who may have information are encouraged to contact the Boulder police tipline at 303-441-1974 or via email at BouldersMostWanted@bouldercolorado.gov. Burgeoning community support and police efforts illustrate a collective hope to finally resolve this deeply unsettling case.
