Boston is bracing for near-record heat on Tuesday as temperatures soar, expected to reach as high as 100 degrees. This extreme heat is approaching the current record of 95 degrees, which was set in 2013. The discomfort will be exacerbated by high humidity, with feels-like temperatures potentially climbing to a sweltering 109 degrees or more, particularly in areas farther from the coastline.
An extreme heat warning is currently in effect for much of Greater Boston, lasting until Tuesday evening. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions such as staying hydrated, pacing themselves if outside, and using sunscreen throughout the day as the sun shines brightly.
By Tuesday night, temperatures are anticipated to drop to the upper 70s under partly cloudy skies. While Wednesday will still be warm, temperatures will be milder, peaking in the upper 80s in Boston and reaching the low to mid 90s in MetroWest.
There’s a chance of a stray shower or storm on Wednesday, but a more significant weather change is expected on Thursday with a cold front moving in. This front is forecasted to bring rain and, more importantly, cooler temperatures that will dip into the low 70s, providing much-needed relief from the heat.
The cool weather will persist into Friday under mostly cloudy skies, with highs still in the low 70s. As the weekend approaches, another system may bring scattered showers, with temperatures projected to reach the mid-70s.
In light of this heat wave, residents are reminded to stay informed and plan accordingly. The anticipation of cooler weather later in the week should serve as a relief for many amid these summer heat challenges.
