Buffalo Bills defensive end Joey Bosa is making a significant comeback this season after struggling with injuries in recent years. Before September, Bosa played in only 28 games across three seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers due to various injuries, raising concerns about his reliability on the field. A decorated five-time Pro Bowl pass-rusher, Bosa was released by the Chargers in the offseason, leading him to sign a one-year deal worth $12.6 million with the Bills.
Looking ahead rather than dwelling on past injuries, Bosa emphasized the importance of playing without fear. In a recent interview with Alaina Getzenberg from ESPN, he stated that a mindset of “playing scared” could hinder performance and lead to more complications. “It’s really tough, but playing scared and playing trying not to get injured is just going to cause more issues than not,” Bosa explained. He has committed to embracing the risks that come with the game, acknowledging that injuries are an inherent part of football while focusing on playing at full speed.
So far this season, Bosa has demonstrated impressive performance, having played and started in all four games for the Bills. He has made a notable impact, recording eight tackles, two sacks, and four forced fumbles, showcasing his determination and skill on the field.
Bosa also believes that a fast and aggressive playing style not only enhances performance but can also serve as a protective measure for his body. “But usually if you’re playing fast and violent and physical, then you’re actually going to end up protecting yourself more than if you’re watching around the pile,” he noted.
As the Bills, sitting at a solid 4-0, prepare to face the New England Patriots, who hold a 2-2 record, Bosa’s presence on the defensive line will be critical. The upcoming matchup on “Sunday Night Football” presents an exciting opportunity for Bosa and his team to continue their winning streak, highlighting his resilience and contribution to the Bills’ success early this season.
