Residents of Palm Bay can expect to hear a series of small explosions and gunfire over the next few days as part of a fall training exercise at Patrick Space Force Base. This operation, which will run through Sunday, involves nearly 90 cadets from the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps at Florida Tech.
Officials from Space Launch Delta 45 have reassured the community that there is no cause for alarm, emphasizing that the training exercises are routine and planned. The U.S. Space Force Malabar Annex, located on a two-square-mile site near Minton Road, will be the primary venue for these activities, which include testing ordnance and simulated explosives. During the exercise, cadets will use blank ammunition for various training drills, including reconnaissance, ambush tactics, and rope bridge construction.
The sounds of the training are expected to reverberate through nearby neighborhoods, particularly along Lynbrook Street and Minton Road, with exercises scheduled from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday. This annex, built shortly after World War II, has remained largely untouched for many years, allowing local wildlife to thrive. However, it has served as a site for training on several occasions, including earlier this spring.
This training not only strengthens the skills of future military leaders but also reinforces the partnership between the Space Force and local communities, showcasing a commitment to readiness and preparedness in national defense.
Residents are encouraged to embrace this as a part of the local landscape, as these training exercises contribute to both the growth of the cadets involved and the overall safety and security of the nation.
