Booker Out with Groin Strain as Suns Face Road Trip Without Their Leader

Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker is facing a setback due to a right groin strain sustained during Monday’s match against the Los Angeles Lakers. The injury will sideline him for at least a week, as confirmed by the team on Wednesday. This absence is significant as it will result in Booker missing three crucial Western Conference road games, including contests against the Houston Rockets, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Oklahoma City Thunder.

Currently, the Suns hold a record of 13-9 and are positioned seventh in the Western Conference standings. During the match against the Lakers, Booker played for the first ten minutes, contributing 11 points on 4-for-7 shooting, alongside three assists and two rebounds, before he was substituted out while the team was trailing 27-26.

Suns coach Jordan Ott addressed the circumstances of the injury, explaining that it likely occurred on a contested play involving Jaxson Hayes. Although Booker did not feel discomfort immediately, he later expressed concern and attempted to stretch out the area in question during the game.

As one of the team’s leaders, Booker has been a pivotal contributor, averaging 25.0 points and 6.7 assists across all 22 games this season. His absence will undoubtedly challenge the Suns as they aim to maintain their competitive edge in the Western Conference. The team and its fans remain hopeful for a swift recovery, anticipating Booker’s impact upon his return.
