Boise State Makes Big Leap: Joining the Pac-12 in 2026!

Boise State University will officially become a member of the Pac-12 Conference on July 1, 2026, pending approval from the Idaho State Board of Education. The Broncos will be part of a revamped conference that includes current members Oregon State and Washington State, as well as newcomers Colorado State, Fresno State, and San Diego State. The transition to conference competition for all sports will occur during the 2026-27 academic year.

Jeramiah Dickey, the Director of Athletics at Boise State, expressed excitement about the decision, highlighting the university’s achievements in academics and athletics. He thanked various stakeholders for their support during the evaluation process, emphasizing that the move was made with the well-being of the over 350 student-athletes in mind. Dickey noted that the transition to the Pac-12 aligns with the department’s goals of enhancing its national reputation and expanding opportunities in storytelling, recruiting, and revenue.

Pac-12 Commissioner Teresa Gould and the conference’s Board of Directors carefully assessed each university’s application based on five key criteria, which included academic and athletic performance, media and brand evaluation, commitment to athletic success, geography, and the welfare of student-athletes.

The unanimous approval of Boise State’s invitation into the Pac-12 was formally announced on Thursday, with Dr. Marlene Tromp, the university president, stating that the institution’s current achievements and growth make this a fitting time to join the conference.
