In light of the upcoming Fourth of July celebrations, officials in Boise, Idaho, are reinforcing the importance of safety regarding fireworks. With thousands expected to attend the festivities at Ann Morrison Park, Fire Chief Mark Niemeyer is urging residents to be particularly cautious this year. Due to the combination of dry vegetation, soaring temperatures, and potential winds, there is a heightened risk of fires associated with fireworks.

Niemeyer highlighted that if wildfires were to ignite in the foothills, resources may be insufficient to respond quickly due to these challenging conditions. Local law enforcement and fire departments stress that while some fireworks can be legally purchased outside of Idaho, aerial fireworks remain illegal to use. In certain unincorporated areas of Ada County, all types of fireworks are prohibited due to the increased wildfire danger.

Sheriff Matt Clifford emphasized the seriousness of illegal fireworks use, warning that anyone responsible for causing fires could face legal repercussions and the burden of firefighting costs. As fireworks-related complaints are common every year, residents are encouraged to report illegal activities by texting designated numbers instead of calling emergency lines.

Additionally, medical responders have reported an increase in alcohol-related injuries and heat-related illnesses during the holiday. Deputy Chief Peter Humlen of Ada County Paramedics reminded the public that even legal fireworks can be hazardous if not handled properly, advising the use of common sense and caution.

The city’s official fireworks display, set to begin at 10:15 p.m., is a professionally managed event with comprehensive safety measures in place. Bonnie Shelton from Boise Parks and Recreation assured that the event is a family-friendly alternative that prioritizes safety.

The emphasis on safe celebrations aims to ensure that everyone enjoys the holiday without incident, fostering a communal spirit of responsibility during this festive time. By adhering to regulations and practicing safety, residents can come together to celebrate in a secure environment.
