The affected areas include Chevy Chase, Friendship Heights, Tenleytown, AU Park, Spring Valley, Cleveland Park, Woodley Park, Van Ness, Glover Park, Wesley Heights, and Cathedral Heights.
This advisory is a precautionary measure due to potential concerns about water quality stemming from the pressure loss. DC Water emphasizes that once service is restored, customers should continue to boil their water before consumption.
Residents in the designated neighborhoods are urged to adhere to the following guidelines:
– Discard any beverages and ice made after 2:27 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
– If any discoloration is observed, run cold water until it is clear prior to boiling.
– If there are known sources of lead in their plumbing, run cold water for 2 minutes before boiling.
– Bring water to a rolling boil for one minute before allowing it to cool.
– Store cooled water in a clean, covered container.
It is recommended that only bottled or boiled water be used for drinking, brushing teeth, cooking, washing fruits and vegetables, preparing infant formula, making ice, washing dishes by hand, and providing water for pets. Additionally, home-filtered water should also be boiled.
DC Water has stated that the advisory will be lifted once testing confirms that there are no bacteria present in the water after consecutive days of testing. This proactive approach aims to ensure the safety and health of the community during this temporary disruption.
