Boeing has announced significant orders for its 787 Dreamliner and 777 double-aisle aircraft, totaling up to 80 units from Japan Airlines and Korean Air. The announcement, made on Monday, highlights Boeing’s effort to reclaim market presence following recent challenges with its 737 Max model.
Brad McMullen, Boeing’s head of sales operations, expressed appreciation for Japan Airlines’ continued commitment to the 787 Dreamliner, which the airline will order 10 of, with an option to acquire 10 additional units. Korean Air has placed orders for twenty 777-9 models and twenty 787-10 planes, also with an option for 10 more 787-10s.
This news arrives coinciding with the opening day of the Farnborough International Airshow, a key event in the aviation industry. The announcement marks a strategic rebound for Boeing, especially considering recent reports indicating that Airbus had secured orders from both Japan Airlines and Korean Air, signaling a shift in purchasing patterns amid the ongoing challenges facing Boeing.
Stephanie Pope, head of Boeing’s commercial airplanes division, expressed gratitude to Korean Air for choosing Boeing’s latest aircraft, emphasizing their long-standing partnership which spans over 50 years. She highlighted the importance of the 777X and 787 Dreamliner in supporting Korean Air’s sustainability objectives and growth ambitions.
