Boeing has announced significant orders for its 787 Dreamliner and 777 double-aisle aircraft from Japan Airlines and Korean Air. On Monday, the company revealed that it had secured orders for up to 80 planes, indicating a strong comeback after facing competition from Airbus, particularly during the fallout from the 737 Max issues earlier this year.

Brad McMullen, Boeing’s head of sales operations, expressed appreciation for Japan Airlines’ continued partnership, stating their excitement about the airline’s decision to enhance its fleet with the 787 Dreamliner.

This announcement coincides with the opening day of the Farnborough International Airshow, a key event in the aviation industry. Japan Airlines has committed to 10 Dreamliners, with an option for 10 additional aircraft, while Korean Air has ordered twenty 777-9 models and twenty 787-10 planes, also with an option for 10 more 787-10s.

Boeing’s announcement comes after reports earlier this year indicated that Airbus had sold A321neo jets to Japan Airlines, marking a shift in the airline’s purchasing strategy. Similarly, Airbus had made sales to Korean Air, signaling a competitive landscape as Boeing seeks to regain traction in the market.

Stephanie Pope, head of Boeing’s commercial airplane division, expressed gratitude for Korean Air’s selection of Boeing’s most efficient widebody airplanes, emphasizing the aircraft’s importance in supporting the airline’s sustainability goals and growth plans.
