Boeing’s Big Win: Major Orders from Japan Airlines and Korean Air at Farnborough

Boeing has announced significant orders for its 787 Dreamliner and 777 double-aisle planes from Japan Airlines and Korean Air. The announcement, made on Monday at the Farnborough International Airshow, reveals that Japan Airlines has ordered 10 Dreamliners with an option for 10 additional aircraft. Meanwhile, Korean Air has placed an order for 20 777-9 models and 20 787-10 planes, also with an option for 10 more 787-10s.

Brad McMullen, Boeing’s head of sales operations, expressed appreciation for the long-standing partnership with Japan Airlines and highlighted their selection of the 787 Dreamliner as part of their fleet modernization strategy.

This development follows earlier reports suggesting that Airbus had made inroads with both Japan Airlines and Korean Air, with Japan Airlines purchasing 11 A321neo jets, marking its first acquisition of a single-aisle plane from a manufacturer other than Boeing. At the same time, Korean Air was reported to have ordered several Airbus wide-body jets, indicating a shift in its purchasing patterns amidst ongoing challenges for Boeing.

Stephanie Pope, head of Boeing’s commercial airplanes division, welcomed Korean Air’s choice of Boeing’s 777X and 787 Dreamliner, emphasizing their integral role in the airline’s operations over the past five decades and their alignment with the airline’s sustainability and growth objectives.
