Boeing’s Big Comeback: Major Orders at Farnborough Airshow

Boeing has recently announced significant orders for its 787 Dreamliner and 777 double-aisle aircraft. On Monday, the company revealed that Japan Airlines and Korean Air had placed orders for up to 80 aircraft. This announcement comes after Airbus had made inroads with these carriers during the earlier issues related to Boeing’s 737 Max.

Brad McMullen, head of Boeing’s sales operations, expressed satisfaction with Japan Airlines re-selecting the 787 Dreamliner as the airline continues to modernize its fleet.

This announcement coincides with the opening day of the Farnborough International Airshow, a key event in the aviation industry. Japan Airlines has committed to 10 Dreamliners with an option for an additional 10, while Korean Air has ordered twenty 777-9 models and twenty 787-10 planes, with an option for 10 more 787-10s.

The longstanding partnership reference highlights earlier reports indicating that Airbus sold 11 A321neo jets to Japan Airlines, marking the first purchase of a single-aisle aircraft from a manufacturer other than Boeing. Additionally, reports emerged of Airbus selling wide-body jets to Korean Air, which typically has a fleet dominated by Boeing aircraft.

Stephanie Pope, head of Boeing’s commercial airplanes division, emphasized the significance of the orders from Korean Air, stating that Boeing aircraft have been integral to the airline’s operations for the past 50 years. She noted that the 777X and 787 Dreamliner will help the airline achieve its sustainability and growth goals.
