Boeing has announced significant orders for its 787 Dreamliner and 777 double-aisle aircraft from Japan Airlines and Korean Air, with up to 80 planes secured. This announcement comes on the first day of the Farnborough International Airshow. Japan Airlines is set to acquire 10 Dreamliners with an option for an additional 10, while Korean Air has ordered 20 777-9 models and 20 787-10 planes, along with the option for another 10 787-10s.
Brad McMullen, Boeing’s vice president of sales operations, expressed gratitude for the enduring partnership with Japan Airlines, noting the airline’s choice to re-select the 787 Dreamliner to enhance its fleet. This development follows earlier reports suggesting that Airbus had made inroads with both airlines during a challenging period for Boeing, marked by issues related to its 737 Max aircraft.
Bloomberg also reported that Airbus had sold multiple wide-body jets to Korean Air, which primarily operates Boeing aircraft. This order was perceived as a strategic move in light of the delays surrounding the 777X model.
Stephanie Pope, head of Boeing’s commercial airplanes division, highlighted the significance of both the 777X and 787 Dreamliner in aiding Korean Air’s long-term sustainability and growth objectives as the airline continues to expand its global operations.
