Boeing has announced significant orders for its large aircraft, securing commitments for up to 80 of its 787 Dreamliner and 777 double-aisle planes from Japan Airlines and Korean Air. This comes as a response to rival Airbus’ previous penetration into these markets following complications surrounding Boeing’s 737 Max model.

Brad McMullen, head of Boeing’s sales operations, expressed appreciation for the ongoing partnership with Japan Airlines, highlighting their decision to continue modernizing their fleet with the 787 Dreamliner.

The announcement was made on the first day of the Farnborough International Airshow, a prominent event in the aviation industry. Japan Airlines has ordered 10 Dreamliners with an option for an additional 10, while Korean Air has requested 20 777-9 models and 20 787-10 planes, with an option for 10 more 787-10s.

This move by Japan Airlines follows a report revealing that Airbus had sold 11 A321neo jets to them in March, marking the first time Japan Airlines purchased a single-aisle aircraft from Airbus, amidst Boeing’s struggles with its 737 Max program. Similarly, it was reported that Airbus had sold several wide-body jets to Korean Air, signaling a potential shift in their purchasing patterns, especially as the 777X model awaits regulatory approval.

Stephanie Pope, head of Boeing’s commercial airplanes division, commented on Korean Air’s selection of Boeing’s aircraft, stating that these planes will support the airline’s sustainability goals and growth for the future.
