Boeing has announced substantial orders for its 787 Dreamliner and 777 double-aisle aircraft, securing commitments for up to 80 planes from Japan Airlines and Korean Air. This announcement came on the opening day of the Farnborough International Airshow, a key event in the aviation industry.
Japan Airlines has placed an order for 10 Dreamliners, with the option to purchase an additional 10. Meanwhile, Korean Air has committed to 20 units of the 777-9 model and 20 787-10 planes, also with an option for 10 more 787-10s.
Brad McMullen, Boeing’s head of sales operations, expressed pride in the ongoing partnership with Japan Airlines, highlighting their decision to continue modernizing their fleet with the 787 Dreamliner.
This announcement arrives after Airbus had made inroads with these airlines earlier in the year, particularly after Boeing faced challenges concerning the 737 Max. A past report indicated that Japan Airlines had purchased A321neo jets from Airbus, marking a significant shift as it was their first acquisition of a single-aisle aircraft from a competitor. In a similar vein, Korean Air was reported to have acquired several wide-body jets from Airbus.
Stephanie Pope, head of Boeing’s commercial airplanes division, stated her appreciation for Korean Air’s decision to order Boeing’s leading widebody aircraft, emphasizing the role Boeing planes have played in the airline’s development over the past 50 years and their alignment with the airline’s long-term sustainability and growth objectives.
