Former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers is making a significant transition from his role as a basketball analyst at ESPN to take on the newly created position of president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE). This exciting new role allows Myers to leverage his extensive experience and influence across a diverse array of sports franchises and leagues, including the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, the NHL’s New Jersey Devils, and Premier League’s Crystal Palace F.C., along with a stake in NASCAR’s Joe Gibbs Racing.
As reported by Adam Schefter, Myers will remain an adviser to Josh Harris, managing partner of the Washington Commanders, a role he previously played in establishing the leadership framework for the NFL franchise, which included key hires such as general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn. Despite his new role, HBSE confirmed that there will be no changes to the reporting structures at its individual teams, ensuring continuity as the presidents of basketball and hockey operations for the 76ers and Devils will still report directly to ownership.
Myers will continue to reside in California but will frequently travel to HBSE’s properties and events, primarily located on the East Coast and internationally. In a joint statement, Harris and Blitzer expressed their enthusiasm about Myers joining the team, stating, “Our goal has been to hire, grow, and retain the best and brightest executives in the world, and we are a stronger, more dynamic organization with the addition of Bob Myers.” They believe his track record as a championship builder will enhance the organization’s leadership and open up new opportunities.
For Bob Myers, this move symbolizes the multifaceted and global opportunity he had been seeking since his departure from the Warriors in 2023. With a background that began as a player agent, Myers transitioned into an influential front-office role with Golden State, where he was instrumental in building a dynasty that clinched four NBA championships between 2015 and 2022, earning NBA Executive of the Year honors on two occasions.
After stepping away from the Warriors, Myers took on the role of an ESPN analyst for the 2023-24 season, sharing insights through pre- and post-game coverage. He expressed his appreciation for the time spent at ESPN, thanking executives Bob Iger and Jimmy Pitaro for the invaluable experience he had at the network.
Myers noted in a statement to ESPN, “This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with talented leaders across the world’s biggest sports leagues and to create competitive advantages for our athletes and teams. That’s exactly the type of challenge I was looking for.” This transition not only marks an exciting chapter for Myers but also promises to bring a wealth of knowledge and strategic insight to HBSE’s already impressive portfolio.
