Exciting news is on the horizon for fans of the beloved animated series “Bluey,” as a new movie adaptation is set to hit theaters. The announcement was made this Tuesday, with BBC Studios, Disney, Disney+, and ABC sharing the news on social media platforms.
Joe Brumm, the show’s creator, expressed his enthusiasm in a letter on the official site, stating that he had some good news, alongside what he described as “trifficult” news. The good news is that after working on a separate project, an old idea for a “Bluey” feature film came to life, leading him to write a script he genuinely loves. “We’re about to embark on making an animated Bluey movie!” he shared.
On the flip side, Brumm revealed he has decided to step away from the television series. He has always maintained that he wouldn’t continue the show unless he could produce new seasons that lived up to the high standards set by earlier episodes. Feeling that he couldn’t guarantee the same quality for a potential fourth season, he has opted for a break from his role in the TV series. He noted that “The Sign” will serve as his finale for “Bluey” on television.
In a press statement regarding the film, Brumm shared his excitement about working in a longer format and views the feature film as a natural progression. “I’ve always thought ‘Bluey’ deserved a theatrical movie,” he remarked, hoping to create an experience for families to enjoy together.
The film will feature vocal talent from the original series, including Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack, and will have music from “Bluey” composer Joff Bush. The release is eagerly expected in theaters in 2027, with plans to air on ABC iview and ABC Kids in Australia shortly thereafter.
This upcoming movie offers a wonderful opportunity for fans of all ages to experience the charm of “Bluey” in a new way, while also celebrating the journey the series has taken. The possibility of a cinematic release opens up new avenues for storytelling and creativity, promising a fun experience for families.
