Blue wave rises as Fiji Police touch rugby braces for Sukuna Bowl showdown

The Fiji Police Force Touch Rugby team gathered for a church service in Raiwaqa today, spiritually preparing for the upcoming Sukuna Bowl. Their attendance was further energized by the presence of the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team, providing additional motivation to the police players.

Touch rugby, now entering its third year as part of the Sukuna Bowl festivities, will see the police team competing in four divisions: men’s open, women’s open, mixed open, and masters. Currently, the Police hold titles in both the women’s and mixed categories, while the Army leads in the men’s division.

Paul Darroch, the assistant head coach of the touch rugby team, noted that the men’s squad has ramped up their preparations after a narrow defeat last year in the final moments. “They don’t want a repeat of what happened last year. They’ve returned firing with determination, and when the dust settles on the Nasova grounds tomorrow, expect the police team to be throwing their blue colors up in the sky,” he stated.

This year’s Sukuna Bowl is set to commence tomorrow, with boxing and cricket kicking off the events. The touch rugby matches will take place at the Nasova Grounds in Suva on Tuesday, promising an exciting experience for both players and fans.

In conjunction with this initiative, the Fiji Police Force rugby team is also gearing up to fiercely defend their title in the Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl, scheduled for November 9. The Police Rugby president, Assistant Commissioner of Police Mesake Waqa, has expressed the team’s commitment to not only defending their title but also honoring their legacy, as this year marks the 150th Anniversary of the Fiji Police Force.

The competitive spirit surrounding these events not only highlights athletic prowess but also fosters community support and camaraderie among the various forces. The upcoming Sukuna Bowl promises to be more than just a competition; it aims to celebrate the unity and dedication that underpins Fiji’s sporting traditions.
