Blue Jays vs Dodgers World Series Tickets Skyrocket as Ford Probes Gouging

Fans of the Toronto Blue Jays are facing sticker shock as ticket prices for the upcoming World Series games against the Los Angeles Dodgers soar into the thousands. Many fans have expressed their frustrations on social media, directing their anger toward Ticketmaster. Reports indicate that ticket prices for Games 1 and 2 at Rogers Centre, scheduled for this Friday and Saturday, range from $345, plus additional fees, to over $5,000 for prime seating locations. One particularly striking example included a ticket priced at nearly $12,000 for a seat in the 100 level behind the Blue Jays’ dugout, which featured more than $2,000 in Ticketmaster fees.

All face-value tickets rapidly sold out, leaving only red resale dots visible on the Ticketmaster site, with listings showing prices as high as $6,000. Observers noted that scalpers appeared to have purchased tickets and immediately listed them for resale just minutes after they became available. A look at Ticketmaster around noon yesterday revealed that no seats for Saturday’s game were being offered for less than $1,500.

In light of this ticket pricing crisis, Ontario Premier Doug Ford has taken notice and is looking into the issue. Ford remarked, “They’re gouging the people. When you have one player in the market that controls the tickets, that’s not right for the people.” His comments come after a previous decision by his government in 2019 to eliminate a law that would have capped ticket resale prices at 50% above the original face value. As the excitement builds ahead of the World Series, many fans are hoping for solutions to ensure fairer access to tickets in the future.
