Blue Jays’ Power Surge: Can They Keep the Momentum Against the Rockies?

The Toronto Blue Jays aim to maintain their offensive momentum after a commanding 15-1 victory against the Colorado Rockies in the first game of their three-game series. This win not only snapped a disappointing stretch for the Blue Jays, but also marked their highest run total of the season.

The Blue Jays are scheduled to play the Rockies again on Tuesday at 8:40 p.m. ET / 5:40 p.m. PT, with live coverage available on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+. José Berríos, sporting a 7-4 record and a 3.84 ERA, will take the mound for Toronto, looking to bounce back from a challenging outing against the Orioles where he allowed five runs in just over four innings.

In contrast, the Rockies will have Anthony Molina making his first start of the season after being called up from triple-A. Molina has struggled in limited action, holding a 7.27 ERA and giving up three home runs across 8.2 innings of work.

After a rough patch post-All-Star break which included back-to-back series losses to the Baltimore Orioles and Kansas City Royals, where the Blue Jays scored more than four runs only once in seven games, Monday’s performance was a welcome sight. Key contributors to the win included Bo Bichette, who hit two home runs and now boasts a remarkable .500 batting average over his last 10 games, alongside Daulton Varsho, who also homered for the first time since returning from the injured list, and Ernie Clement, who recorded a career-high five hits.

Currently, the Blue Jays lead the AL East with a record of 66-48, three games ahead of the Boston Red Sox. Meanwhile, the Rockies are struggling significantly with a league-worst 30-82 record, trailing by 12 games.

This turnaround for Toronto could signal a resurgence as they navigate the latter part of the season, igniting hopes for a strong playoff push. The team’s offensive firepower against the Rockies suggests they may have found their rhythm just in time.
