Blake Lively has brought forth serious allegations against her director and co-star in “It Ends With Us,” Justin Baldoni, claiming sexual harassment during the film’s production. She has filed a legal complaint with the California Civil Rights Department, which may lead to a lawsuit involving Baldoni, the studio producing the movie, and Baldoni’s public relations team.
In her complaint, Lively accuses Baldoni and the studio of devising a strategy to harm her public image following discussions regarding repeated incidents of sexual harassment directed at her by Baldoni and a producer. This alleged “multi-tiered plan” purportedly involved spreading negative narratives about Lively online, initiating a targeted social media campaign, and orchestrating press coverage critical of her.
Lively’s complaint asserts that Baldoni’s team carried out a “sophisticated, coordinated, and well-financed retaliation plan,” designed to undermine her credibility and bolster his own. They also claim that Baldoni shifted the movie’s marketing strategy in an attempt to enhance his image.
In contrast, Baldoni’s legal representation has dismissed Lively’s claims, labeling them as false and suggesting that the studio acted responsibly in hiring a crisis manager to manage Lively’s perceived threats during production. They allege that Lively made numerous demands which included prohibitions on certain discussions and behaviors on set, such as the showing of explicit content and unwanted inquiries about her personal life.
Among her outlined demands were requests for privacy during intimate scenes and the presence of an intimacy coordinator, emphasizing her need for a respectful working environment. Lively expressed hope that her legal actions would expose harmful retaliation tactics and protect others who may also be victims of misconduct.
The romantic drama “It Ends With Us,” which premiered in August, garnered $50 million at the box office, despite speculation about tensions between its lead actors. Baldoni has previously addressed critiques regarding the film’s portrayal of domestic violence, emphasizing the care taken in its production.
This situation highlights the ongoing challenges in the entertainment industry regarding workplace conduct, showcasing Lively’s determination to advocate for a safer and more respectful environment for all involved in film production. It’s a poignant reminder of the importance of addressing misconduct and supporting individuals who come forward.
