Chandigarh experienced a sudden blackout on Thursday evening following missile and drone attacks from Pakistan targeting parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Sirens alerted residents, prompting authorities to order the closure of shops and advise citizens to stay indoors.

Officials extended the blackout to Mohali as well, emphasizing the need for safety amid escalating tensions. Power was restored in Chandigarh shortly after midnight, with the district collector urging residents to proceed with caution and adhere to the voluntary blackout.

The attack from Pakistan came after previous failed attempts to strike multiple locations in India, including Chandigarh. On Thursday evening, eight missiles targeted RS Pura, Arnia, Samba, and Hiranagar in Jammu and Kashmir, while interception efforts over Jammu were reportedly successful.

In Punjab’s Pathankot, located approximately 30 kilometers from the border, shelling incidents were also reported. Additional blackouts were enforced in Jaisalmer, Amritsar, and Panchkula as a precautionary measure.

The government reported that previous military targets in several cities had been attempted by Pakistan on the night of April 22, which included significant locations across North India. India’s air defense systems neutralized those threats, and debris has been collected as evidence of the aggression.

During a press briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri condemned Pakistan for its aggressive actions, asserting that the escalation began with a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir that claimed 26 lives. He reiterated that India’s military responses were strategic and aimed at non-civilian areas, particularly terrorist camps, as a counter to Pakistan’s provocations.

This situation highlights ongoing tensions in the region, yet it underscores India’s commitment to respond to threats while ensuring the safety of its citizens. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely.
