Bissouma’s Stellar Comeback Fuels Tottenham’s 4-0 Triumph

Yves Bissouma made a remarkable comeback after his suspension by scoring a stunning goal, leading his team to a 4-0 victory against Everton. The Mali midfielder, who had been sidelined for the season opener due to issues related to laughing gas, impressed head coach Ange Postecoglou with his performance.

Bissouma netted the opening goal in the 14th minute, striking from the edge of the box and hitting the crossbar for his first goal in 56 appearances for Tottenham. Captain Son Heung-min, filling in for the injured Dominic Solanke, added to the scoreline just 11 minutes later by capitalizing on a mistake from Everton’s goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

After the halftime break, Cristian Romero headed in a third goal 19 minutes from time, and Son scored his second following a strong assist from Micky van de Ven. This match proved to be a comfortable outing for Spurs.

In analyzing Bissouma’s performance, Postecoglou noted the midfielder’s strong response to his earlier misbehavior, likening it to a child behaving well after a reprimand. Bissouma showcased his organizational skills and determination, contributing significantly to the team’s efforts.

Another standout was Wilson Odobert, who was unexpectedly included in the starting lineup despite only a few training sessions since his £25 million transfer from Burnley. The 19-year-old winger displayed an eagerness to take on defenders and effectively partnered with teammates to create opportunities.

Postecoglou faced a dilemma with Solanke’s injury, leading to Son’s temporary shift to a central role. The South Korean international proved that he could adapt, assisting Romero early in the match and scoring twice to help secure the win.

Postecoglou expressed his desire for Bissouma to achieve his best self, pointing out that discipline is key to his success. He also praised the contributions of James Maddison, emphasizing that a fit Maddison has the potential to significantly impact the team’s performance.

Looking ahead, Tottenham will face Newcastle United in their next Premier League match.
