Former NHL player and TNT hockey analyst Paul Bissonnette was involved in a violent altercation at a Scottsdale, Arizona steakhouse on Sunday night, during which he attempted to protect the restaurant’s manager.
In a video posted on X the following day, Bissonnette recounted how he intervened when a member of a group confronted the manager, becoming aggressive after his friend was asked to leave. Bissonnette described the manager’s reaction as one of shock. He approached the disruptive individual, warning him against his behavior, stating, “sir, if you’re going to assault and harass the staff, we’re going to have problems.”
The situation escalated quickly, leading to a physical confrontation that began inside the restaurant and moved outside into the parking lot and even to a nearby store. During the melee, Bissonnette reported being kicked in the head multiple times and receiving several punches before he managed to retaliate against several assailants, noted to be around seven individuals.
In response to the incident, Scottsdale police arrested six men on charges of assault and disorderly conduct.
Bissonnette, who played in the NHL from 2008 to 2014—spending his last five seasons with the Phoenix Coyotes—has transitioned into a successful broadcasting career. His willingness to step in and defend a staff member during such a chaotic situation showcases courage and a commitment to standing up against bullying, a positive message in today’s society.
This incident highlights the importance of community members looking out for one another and intervening in situations of injustice or aggression, reminding us all that we have the power to make a difference even in difficult circumstances.
