The Buffalo Bills have recently explored their options at kicker, bringing in three candidates for tryouts, including Younghoe Koo, Maddux Trujillo, and Gavin Stewart.
Younghoe Koo, 31, has had an interesting journey in the NFL since signing with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia Southern in 2017. Initially, he was set to earn a base salary of $465,000 but was waived by the Chargers shortly after the start of the season. Koo then played in the Alliance of American Football (AAF) for the Atlanta Legends before making his way to the NFL with the New England Patriots, where he spent time on the practice squad. His career took a positive turn when he signed with the Atlanta Falcons, who eventually granted him a one-year extension in 2020 and re-signed him as an exclusive rights free agent the following year.
In 2022, Koo’s performance secured him a notable five-year contract with the Falcons worth $24.25 million. However, he faced an unexpected setback earlier this season when he was released despite being slated to earn base salaries of $4.25 million and $1.5 million in the last two years of his contract. In November, he joined the practice squad of the New York Giants, showcasing his resilience in the ever-challenging landscape of professional football.
During his career, Koo has made a mark in the league, appearing in six games for both the Falcons and Giants in 2025. He successfully converted six out of nine field goal attempts and 13 out of 14 extra point attempts, reflecting his reliability and skill as a kicker amidst the changes in his career.
The Bills’ tryouts signal an important step in addressing their kicking situation as they look to solidify their special teams ahead of the upcoming matches. Koo’s experience and proven track record may offer them a well-rounded option, adding depth and stability as they navigate the season.
