The Buffalo Bills secured a decisive victory against the Miami Dolphins on Thursday night, winning 31-10. The game took a serious turn in the third quarter when Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa exited due to a concussion.
Tagovailoa was attempting to convert a fourth down while the Dolphins were down by 21 points when he collided head-first with Bills safety Damar Hamlin. His teammates quickly summoned trainers as he remained on the field. Although he managed to walk off on his own, he was subsequently declared out for the remainder of the game.
Prior to the injury, the Dolphins were struggling. Buffalo built a commanding lead primarily due to three interceptions thrown by Tagovailoa. Bills running back James Cook shined with three touchdowns, scoring twice on the ground and once through the air. Quarterback Josh Allen had an efficient game, completing 13 of 19 passes for 139 yards, while Cook rushed for 78 yards on 11 attempts.
The focus now shifts to Tagovailoa, who has a concerning history with concussions. He suffered two concussions during the 2022 season and was suspected of having another prior to those, leading to significant changes in the NFL’s concussion protocols midseason.
With this victory, the Bills improved to 2-0 and will face the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3. Meanwhile, the Dolphins dropped to 1-1 and are set to play against Seattle on September 22.
