The Buffalo Bills triumphed over the Miami Dolphins on Thursday night with a score of 31-10, in a game that saw Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa exit due to a concussion in the third quarter.
Tagovailoa was attempting to make a fourth down conversion while the Dolphins were down by 21 points when he collided headfirst with Bills safety Damar Hamlin. His teammates quickly called for medical staff as he remained on the field. Fortunately, Tagovailoa was able to walk off without assistance, but he was subsequently ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Prior to the injury, the Dolphins were already struggling, as Buffalo established a dominant 31-10 lead primarily due to three interceptions thrown by Tagovailoa. Bills running back James Cook had an outstanding performance, scoring three touchdowns — two rushing and one receiving. Quarterback Josh Allen had a straightforward outing, completing 13 of 19 passes for 139 yards, while Cook rushed for 78 yards on 11 carries.
All eyes will now be on Tagovailoa, who has a troubled history with concussions. He suffered two concussions during the Dolphins’ 2022 season and faced scrutiny for another suspected concussion prior to those incidents, which prompted the NFL and the NFL Players Association to revise the league’s concussion protocols midseason.
With this victory, the Bills improved to 2-0 and will meet the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3, while the Dolphins fell to 1-1 and are set to face the Seattle Seahawks on September 22.
