A far-right group on social media is urging MAGA supporters to boycott Walmart following revelations about Christy Walton, a billionaire philanthropist and stakeholder in the company, allegedly funding the upcoming “No Kings” protests against Trump. In a recent tweet, the group highlighted a full-page advertisement in the New York Times, paid for by Walton, which promotes a nationwide anti-Trump protest set to take place on June 14.

Walton, who owns a 2 percent stake in Walmart’s massive $611 billion business, is reportedly using her platform to encourage peaceful civic engagement during the protests. The ad states, “The honor, dignity, and integrity of our country are not for sale,” and emphasizes the importance of government as “of the people, by the people, for the people.” This has sparked criticism from some factions who see Walton’s philanthropy as a conflict due to her ties to Walmart.

A representative for Walton clarified that the advertisement is a personal endeavor and reiterated that she does not participate in the governance or decision-making processes at Walmart. A spokesperson for Walmart emphasized the company’s commitment to safety, condemning violence, and distancing from Walton’s advertisement, asserting that it does not reflect the company’s stance.

In addition to her involvement in social and environmental causes, Walton’s wealth allows her to support various philanthropic efforts. As she rises to prominence, the protests she supports are organized by No Kings—an anti-elitist collective aiming to democratize art and challenge the status quo.

The No Kings protests coinciding with Trump’s birthday and a military parade in Washington, D.C., aim to spotlight grassroots movements across the country. Instead of holding a demonstration in the capital, No Kings plans to orchestrate a major rally in Philadelphia, drawing attention to the importance of community action against perceived strongman politics.

Despite the tensions surrounding these events, there remains an opportunity for constructive dialogue among participants on both sides of the political spectrum. The hope is for peaceful and civic-minded expressions during the upcoming protests, showcasing the power of democratic participation in the United States.
