ITHACA, N.Y. – The Big Red lacrosse team has achieved a remarkable milestone, with nine players earning All-America honors from USA Lacrosse, the highest number of any team nationwide this season. This outstanding recognition includes first-team selections for seniors Jeff Kirst and John Kelleher, alongside several notable second and third-team players and honorable mentions.
Kirst has had a stellar season, leading the nation in goals with 68 and in points with 98. This accomplishment marks his fourth All-American selection, and he has been recognized as the Ivy League Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. He recently became the NCAA’s all-time career leader in goals, raising his total to an impressive 233.
Kelleher, recognized as a three-time All-Ivy selection, was awarded the inaugural Ivy League Midfielder of the Year honor. He has contributed significantly to the team’s success with 21 goals, 10 assists, and strong defensive play, which includes 15 ground balls.
Additionally, midfielder John Firth and attacker Sam Goldstein have been recognized for their impactful contributions. Firth was honored as a first-team All-Ivy selection and played a crucial role in scoring and facilitating plays, while Goldstein led the Ivy League in assists, showcasing remarkable offensive skills.
Defensively, the team’s performance has been reinforced by the efforts of players like Ryan Singer, who earned the title of Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, and converted goalkeeper Matt Wallace, who also received All-American honors this season.
Kirst, Kelleher, and the other All-Americans put forth exceptional performances throughout the season, setting a high bar for lacrosse excellence. The Big Red will look to build on this momentum as they prepare to face UAlbany on May 11 in the NCAA Tournament’s second round, with the game being broadcast on ESPNU.
