Big Meech’s Release: What Lies Ahead for the Black Mafia Family Co-Founder?

Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory, co-founder of the Black Mafia Family, has been released from prison and will complete his sentence at a halfway house. Flenory, arrested in 2005, received a 30-year sentence after convictions for drug trafficking and money laundering. His expected release date is January 27, 2026, as noted by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

According to reports, Flenory was transferred on Tuesday from FCI Coleman Low in Wildwood to a community confinement facility managed by the Bureau of Prisons Miami Residential Reentry Management Office. In 2024, a judge reduced his sentence by nearly three years.

The Black Mafia Family was established in 1985 in Detroit by brothers Demetrius and Terry Flenory, operating as a significant drug-trafficking and money-laundering organization. At its peak, BMF is said to have had over 500 members and generated more than $270 million between 1989 and 2005.

In 2000, the Flenory brothers established a drug distribution network leveraging Los Angeles sources and connections with Mexican drug cartels. Additionally, Demetrius founded BMF Entertainment as a front for laundering money and generating other income.

In October 2005, the DEA executed a raid resulting in the arrest of 30 BMF members, seizing $2 million in cash, weapons, and cocaine. Both brothers were indicted later that year, eventually pleading guilty in 2007 to running a large-scale cocaine distribution operation in the U.S. from 1990 to 2005 and receiving 30-year sentences for their roles in the criminal enterprise.
