Eric Bieniemy’s tenure as the offensive coordinator for UCLA has come to an end after just one season. Sources have confirmed that the Bruins are parting ways with Bieniemy, who was brought on board in 2024 after the hiring of head coach Deshaun Foster. This decision follows a disappointing season for UCLA, where the team finished with a 5-7 record and struggled offensively, ranking 117th in total offense nationwide.
During the 2024 season, UCLA averaged only 5.4 yards per play and managed to score an average of 18.4 points per game, surpassing the 20-point mark on just two occasions throughout the season. These challenges were significant factors in the team’s struggles in the competitive Big Ten conference, where they ended with a 3-6 record.
Prior to his time at UCLA, Bieniemy enjoyed a prominent coaching career in the NFL, particularly as the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite his success, including multiple interviews for NFL head coaching positions, he was unable to secure a head coaching role. After leaving the Chiefs post-2022 season, he briefly joined the Washington Commanders’ coaching staff but faced further upheaval as the team underwent substantial changes.
With Bieniemy having previously served as an assistant coach in various capacities, including at his alma mater, Colorado, and with the Minnesota Vikings, it remains uncertain where he will land next in his coaching career. Despite the setbacks, Bieniemy’s extensive experience may present future opportunities as he seeks to regain a foothold in the coaching world.
Looking ahead, there is hope that Bieniemy can leverage the lessons learned during his recent challenges to find success in his next role. His deep knowledge of offensive strategies and his track record in high-pressure environments signal that he still has much to offer in the realm of football coaching.
