The Biden administration announced on Friday an additional $4.28 billion in student loan relief aimed at nearly 55,000 public service workers, bringing the total debt forgiveness under this administration to approximately $180 billion for close to 5 million Americans.
This latest round of relief pertains to individuals enrolled in the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program, which provides loan forgiveness to professionals in sectors such as firefighting, nursing, and teaching, after they make ten years of continuous payments. To date, over 1 million borrowers have benefited from the PSLF program, amassing approximately $78 billion in student loan forgiveness.
