A representative for Beyoncé has confirmed that the singer will not be attending the 2024 Democratic National Convention. The representative stated, “Beyoncé was never scheduled to be there. The report of a performance is untrue.”
There had been rampant speculation online regarding the possibility of Beyoncé attending and performing at the DNC, particularly as the event celebrated Vice President Kamala Harris’ historic presidential nomination.
Reports earlier this week revealed that Pink would serve as the headline act before Harris’ speech, and as the event progressed, it appeared that Pink’s slot had been elevated, prompting further speculation about an unannounced guest.
Although Beyoncé herself was not present, her song “Freedom” played at the Chicago venue, the United Center, both during and after Harris’ acceptance speech for the party’s nomination. The artist had previously given permission for Harris to use the track from her 2016 album Lemonade in support of the campaign, and it has now become a campaign anthem, also featuring in a new campaign ad for Harris and her running mate Tim Walz.
This year’s DNC featured a variety of notable hosts, including Tony Goldwyn, Ana Navarro, Mindy Kaling, and Kerry Washington, each serving as emcees for different nights. The four-day event showcased performances from artists such as Stevie Wonder, John Legend, and Patti LaBelle, alongside surprise appearances from celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, who encouraged registered independents to vote.
On the third night of the convention, John Legend and Sheila E. honored Minnesota, the home state of vice presidential nominee Tim Walz, with a performance of Prince’s iconic song “Let’s Go Crazy.” Additionally, Stevie Wonder made a surprise appearance, delivering a powerful message about civic engagement as he performed his classic “Higher Ground,” urging attendees to vote.
In contrast, July’s Republican National Convention featured appearances by celebrities like Hulk Hogan, Kid Rock, and Amber Rose.
