The scam text typically prompts recipients to click on a fraudulent link to pay an alleged outstanding traffic ticket. This link directs users to a website designed to closely resemble the legitimate DDS site, which can easily trick unsuspecting drivers.
Angelique B. McClendon, the DDS Commissioner, emphasizes that DDS employees never reach out to individuals requesting payment or sensitive personal information. Those facing potential license suspensions or other changes are formally notified via mail by the department. McClendon advises anyone who receives such messages to disregard them, avoid clicking links, and delete the texts immediately.
To ensure safety and verify their license status, individuals are encouraged to visit the genuine DDS website. This warning serves as a crucial reminder for residents to stay vigilant regarding their personal information and recognize that government agencies will not solicit payment through text messages.
