Bengals vs. Patriots: Key Players in Doubt for Week 1 Showdown

The New England Patriots are entering their Week 1 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals as significant underdogs, but there are uncertainties regarding the availability of key Bengals players.

Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins is facing a hamstring issue. After being limited in Thursday’s practice, he missed Friday’s session and is now officially listed as doubtful for the game on Sunday.

If Higgins is unable to play, it would be a considerable advantage for the Patriots’ secondary. The experienced receiver has proven to be challenging to defend, having previously recorded eight receptions for 128 yards and a touchdown against the Patriots in their last encounter in December 2022.

Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, who ranks among the top five players in his position, is listed as questionable for Week 1. Chase is currently holding out for a new contract but has not sustained any injuries. He participated in limited practice sessions on Wednesday and Thursday before practicing fully on Friday.

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor stated, “we’ll see” in response to questions from reporters about the potential participation of both Chase and Higgins against the Patriots.

Chase indicated on Friday that he is willing to play this season even without a contract extension, but he has not yet made a decision regarding his participation in Week 1. “It’s my decision,” he told reporters.

Additionally, Bengals offensive tackle Amarius Mims has been ruled out due to a pectoral injury.

The Patriots are also facing injury challenges. Left guard Sidy Sow will be sidelined due to an ankle injury, while running back Antonio Gibson (hip), offensive tackle Vederian Lowe (abdomen), and linebacker Josh Uche (foot) are all listed as questionable.

The game is set to kick off at 1 p.m. ET.
