Askren, who faced serious health challenges including pneumonia and a staph infection, has been recuperating in a Wisconsin hospital.

In an emotional Instagram video, Askren recounted how he has limited memory of his hospitalization between late May and early July, revealing that he learned about the events through a journal kept by his wife, Amy. “No recollection, zero idea… it’s like a movie,” Askren reflected, mentioning that he experienced his heart stopping four times during his ordeal. He lost 50 pounds over 45 days but expressed optimism, noting he has begun to regain his strength.

Askren highlighted the overwhelming support he received, particularly from the wrestling community, describing it as a heartfelt experience akin to attending his own funeral. This outpouring of love was a beacon of hope during a dark time in his life.

Known for a successful sports career, Askren boasts an MMA record of 19 wins and 2 losses, securing titles in both Bellator and ONE Championship. He also won two NCAA Division I national championships, becoming a two-time recipient of the prestigious Dan Hodge Trophy. With an Olympic appearance in 2008, his credentials are impressive.
