Uche Ojeh, the husband of TODAY co-host Sheinelle Jones, has passed away at the age of 45 after a courageous fight against an aggressive form of brain cancer known as glioblastoma. Savannah Guthrie shared the heartbreaking news on the morning show on May 23, expressing profound sadness for Sheinelle and their three young children.
Uche Ojeh’s journey with Sheinelle began at Northwestern University in the late 1990s when they first met. Their relationship flourished over the years, culminating in a proposal on the same campus where they initially connected. The couple tied the knot in September 2007 in Philadelphia, Sheinelle’s hometown, and welcomed three children: Kayin in 2009 and twins Uche and Clara in 2012.
Uche was known for his unwavering devotion to his family, his friends, and his roots in Nigerian culture, which he instilled in his children. His passions included soccer, where he was an enthusiastic player, and singing in the church choir. Colleagues shared how he was proud of his children, always present at their events, and celebrated their achievements. Craig Melvin recalled Uche’s commitment, stating he was often the supportive dad at soccer games and various performances.
The bond between Sheinelle and Uche was characterized by mutual support and love, exemplified when Uche celebrated Sheinelle’s completion of the New York City Marathon. Their partnership was filled with small gestures and loving celebrations of life’s milestones.
The TODAY family honors Uche’s memory as a devoted husband and loving father whose spirit had a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. In memory of Uche’s remarkable life, there is hope that his legacy will inspire others to cherish the bonds of family and love.
