BECKET — The arts community is in mourning following the tragic and accidental death of Kat Sirico, a beloved production manager at Jacob’s Pillow and faculty member at the University of Rochester, N.Y. Sirico, 40, lost their life in a workplace accident on Friday, where they were struck by a dolly and staging platform. Authorities are currently investigating the incident, which has not resulted in any criminal charges.

In response to this heartbreaking loss, Jacob’s Pillow has canceled performances through Sunday, with plans to resume shows next week. The artistic community has expressed their condolences and shared memories of Sirico, who was highly regarded for their kindness and compassion. Aubria Battle, a stage operations technician who worked closely with Sirico, noted the importance of their support, particularly regarding mental health discussions.

This year marked a significant return for Sirico to Jacob’s Pillow, as they served as production manager at the newly reopened Doris Duke Theatre, a venue that had undergone extensive renovations after a fire in 2020. Sirico, who previously interned at the dance center and built a prolific career in production and lighting design, had expressed gratitude for their recent opportunity to contribute to the arts at Jacob’s Pillow.

The impact of Sirico’s work was felt deeply by colleagues and students alike. Pamela Tatge, creative and executive director at Jacob’s Pillow, described Sirico as a devoted leader whose dedication enriched the lives of many. Simultaneously, at the University of Rochester, Sirico was recognized for their calm demeanor and exceptional teaching abilities, making a lasting impression on both students and faculty.

Outside of their professional achievements, Sirico was remembered for their warmth and ability to foster friendships, as noted by Nathan Leigh, a fellow artist who highlighted their open and kind nature.

Sirico’s family reflected on their life, stating that their final moments were spent in an environment that brought them joy and purpose. They have requested privacy as they navigate their grief and plan a remembrance event to celebrate Sirico’s legacy.

Through their contributions to the arts, Sirico’s memory will continue to inspire and impact the community they cherished dearly. Their dedication to fostering connection and creativity in the arts serves as a hopeful reminder of the positive influence one individual can have in the lives of others.
