Television and film actor Joe Marinelli has passed away at the age of 68 after a battle with throat and stomach cancer, as confirmed by his agent Julie Smith. Marinelli had an expansive career with over 50 screen credits, becoming known for his memorable guest roles on popular television programs, notably portraying Bunny Tagliatti—a cross-dressing mobster—in the daytime soap opera “Santa Barbara.” His performance, which spanned more than 170 episodes from 1988 to 1990, earned him a Soap Opera Digest Award.
In addition to “Santa Barbara,” Marinelli’s acting journey included appearances in widely acclaimed shows such as “Cagney & Lacey,” “Hill Street Blues,” and “ER.” His talent also graced films, most notably the acclaimed 2004 movie “Sideways.” His later work included roles in “Insecure,” “Hollywood,” and “The Offer,” with his most recent project being “The Morning Show,” where he played director Donny Spagnoli. For this role, he was part of the team nominated for a Screen Actors Guild award for best dramatic ensemble in 2022.
