Wendie Malick has shared some heartwarming behind-the-scenes insights from the set of “Shrinking,” particularly regarding her co-star Harrison Ford. In an interview with PEOPLE during the premiere of the show’s second season, the 73-year-old actress discussed the bond she has forged with the iconic 82-year-old actor.

Malick revealed that Ford has a charming ritual in which he drives her around in his golf cart, humorously labeled ‘Cowboy.’ She remarked, “He always picks me up and takes me to the stage, which is very generous of him. But I have to say that he is just one of the loveliest, most generous and funny leading men I’ve ever had.”

In addition to their golf cart rides, Malick mentioned that Ford also acts as her personal sommelier, introducing her to fine wines and crafting delightful cocktails, such as “really wonderful tequila cocktails.” Reflecting on Ford’s legacy, she noted that his enduring appeal lies in his playful character, saying, “That little dry sense of humor, which is so irresistible, and he doesn’t take himself too seriously.”

As the second season progresses, Malick expressed that she and Ford have “established a good rapport,” enhancing their portrayal of on-screen love interests. She explained the evolution of their characters, referring to her role as Dr. Julie Baram, who begins a romantic relationship with Ford’s character after he becomes her patient due to a Parkinson’s diagnosis.

Malick elaborated on the show’s themes, highlighting how it resonates with many who are navigating unexpected losses and health challenges, and how relationships of choice often define familial bonds in later life.

In addition to “Shrinking,” Malick is set to star in the new Hallmark+ series “The Chicken Sisters,” where she portrays Augusta “Gus” Moore, the owner of Mimi’s Fried Chicken restaurant. She shared her creative process in developing this character, taking inspiration from the novel the series is based on.

“The description mentioned she was kind of a witch and a mean old so-and-so, so I thought, ‘Maybe she’s like an old hippie and she’s a hoarder,’” she explained, adding that she wanted her character to appear almost androgynous, with a unique style marked by overalls and men’s boots.

Finally, she humorously remarked that preparing for this role resulted in the “easiest hair and makeup and wardrobe” she has ever experienced.

“Shrinking” season 2 is set to premiere on Wednesday, October 16, on Apple TV+.
