With the premiere of the series “Sin querer queriendo,” which explores the life of Roberto Gómez Bolaños, known as ‘Chespirito,’ and delves into the personal experiences of those involved in creating iconic characters such as El Chapulín Colorado and El Chavo del 8, many past anecdotes and opinions have resurfaced.
One notable reflection comes from an interview in which Florinda Meza described the children and the first wife of ‘Chespirito’ as having “defects.” Additionally, Marco Antonio Regil, during a conversation for the 2022 podcast Pinky Promise hosted by Karla Diaz, shared insights into Enrique Segoviano’s feelings after his departure from El Chavo.
Regil explained that after Segoviano left ‘Chespirito’ in the late 1970s, he continued to thrive in television, directing and producing several game shows including “Atínale al Precio,” “100 mexicanos dijeron,” and “Todo el mundo cree que sabe,” where Regil himself served as a host. This professional relationship blossomed into a strong friendship between the two.
Discussing Segoviano’s departure from El Chavo, Regil conveyed that it was a painful experience for him, noting that he had helped co-create the show. The conversation revealed that Meza previously dated Segoviano and Carlos Villagrán, leading to the controversial decision of firing Segoviano during a tumultuous time.
Regil emphasized the significant contributions Segoviano made to El Chavo, from integrating special effects to establishing a philosophy of not using laugh tracks out of respect for the audience. He pointed out the unfairness of Segoviano not receiving due recognition for his work, stating, “It hurt him in his heart to be removed from a program he co-created without any credit.”
Following Segoviano’s exit, and with changes in the cast dynamic, the direction of El Chavo shifted significantly. Regil observed that characters like Chimoltrufia became more central, transforming the show’s essence and altering Chespirito’s on-screen presence.
This exploration into the lives behind the beloved characters provides a deeper understanding of the legacy left by those who contributed to the magic of ‘Chespirito’ and highlights the importance of recognizing all those involved in shaping iconic television history.
