Beau DeMayo, the creator of “X-Men ’97,” is facing controversy after Disney announced that he was dismissed from the series due to misconduct allegations. In response, DeMayo’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, issued a statement criticizing Disney’s practices.
Freedman commented that his extensive experience with Disney reveals a consistent pattern. According to him, the company presents a family-friendly facade while allegedly embedding questionable clauses in contracts designed to suppress the truth and infringe upon basic constitutional rights.
This statement followed Disney’s announcement explaining the removal of DeMayo’s credits from the upcoming season. DeMayo had earlier suggested on social media that the removal was retaliation for his pro-gay pride posts made in June. However, Disney claimed the action stemmed from an investigation that uncovered “egregious” misconduct by DeMayo, the specifics of which remain undisclosed. Sources indicate that allegations of sexual misconduct contributed to his termination.
Freedman plans to provide detailed instances to support his claims against Disney, stating that the entertainment giant has a repetitive and illegal pattern that involves retaliating against those who expose their practices. He expressed confidence that DeMayo and others would reveal the truth despite facing significant pushback from Disney.
DeMayo was let go in March, just before the series debuted on Disney+. He had already completed work on the first two seasons, which earned strong reviews and received an Emmy nomination for best animated program.
