The Orlando Storm have officially named Anthony Becht as their head coach, marking an exciting development for the new franchise in the United Football League (UFL). The announcement was made on Tuesday morning, setting the stage for Becht to lead the team as they prepare for their inaugural season.

Becht, a former NFL tight end and coach of the St. Louis Battlehawks, expressed his heartfelt sentiments about his transition. “Today, I am filled with mixed emotions as I leave a city and team that I love – the St. Louis Battlehawks – to take on the exciting challenge of building a new team – the Orlando Storm,” he stated. He highlighted his return to Florida, where he played three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and conveyed his gratitude to Battlehawks fans for their unwavering support.

Mike Repole, co-owner of the UFL, praised Becht’s contributions, stating, “Anthony Becht has been a tremendous coach and ambassador for the United Football League, and I have no doubt he’ll bring that same passion and leadership to the Orlando Storm.” Repole emphasized Becht’s understanding of the state’s football culture, adding optimism for the team’s upcoming journey in Orlando.

The Orlando Storm is one of three new teams joining the UFL this season, alongside the Columbus Aviators and the Louisville Kings. These new additions will replace the Michigan Panthers, Memphis Showboats, and San Antonio Brahmas, igniting further excitement in the league as it evolves into its third season.

Reflecting on Becht’s background, he played collegiate football at West Virginia before being drafted by the New York Jets in 2000, where he enjoyed a successful NFL career, including a notable tenure with the Buccaneers. He transitioned to coaching in 2019 and took the reins as head coach of the Battlehawks in 2023, leading the team to a commendable combined record of 22-10 over two seasons.

As the UFL continues to grow and evolve, the addition of Anthony Becht provides a promising outlook for the Orlando Storm and their supporters. The excitement surrounding the team and its coach heralds a new chapter in Florida’s football tradition.
