Brandon Beane expressed confidence in the Buffalo Bills’ receiving corps as they head into the 2025 season, defending the team’s decision not to draft any wide receivers early in the draft. Speaking to WGR-550’s Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase, the Bills’ general manager pointed out that the team led the league in scoring the previous year, even outperforming the Super Bowl champions.
“A year ago, I get you guys asking why we didn’t have receivers, but I don’t understand it now,” Beane remarked. He highlighted that the team’s performance, particularly scoring without star receiver Stefon Diggs, demonstrated the strength of the current group, stating, “How is this group not better than last year’s group?”
Despite this confidence, Beane acknowledged the need to strengthen the team’s defense, saying, “Our job is to score points and win games.” He dismissed critiques regarding the wide receiver position as unfounded, branding them as “one of the dumbest arguments I’ve heard.”
Just a day after his comments, the Bills signed veteran wide receiver Elijah Moore to a one-year contract with $2.5 million guaranteed. Moore, 25, arrived in Buffalo after two productive seasons with the Cleveland Browns, where he averaged 60 receptions and 589 yards each year despite challenging quarterback situations.
Unfortunately, Moore’s stint with the Bills did not meet expectations. He managed to make only nine receptions for 112 yards in his time with the team and added a rushing touchdown. Following the recent acquisition of Brandin Cooks, Moore was waived, making him the odd man out in a revamped receiving lineup.
While the Bills continue to reshape their roster, Beane’s faith in the receiving core highlights a larger strategy focused on building around established talent like quarterback Josh Allen. This approach indicates a commitment to fostering offensive productivity, suggesting that the Bills still have the potential to compete at a high level in the upcoming season.
