Handwashing Hero Drive: Ocean Soaps Donates Hundreds of Antibacterial Bars to Fiji Schools

Be a Handwashing Hero: Fiji Schools Receive Antibacterial Soap on Global Handwashing Day 2025

Ocean Soaps, part of the Punjas Group, celebrated Global Handwashing Day 2025 by donating hundreds of antibacterial soap bars to schools across the Western Division. This charitable act emphasizes the vital importance of hygiene while demonstrating the company’s commitment to public health and community well-being.

During the event, Mr. Gopal Jadhav, Chief Marketing Manager of the Punjas Group, spoke about the significance of the campaign aligned with the 2025 theme, “Be a Handwashing Hero.” He highlighted how even small actions like handwashing can significantly impact health preservation. “Handwashing is one of the simplest and most effective measures for safeguarding our wellbeing,” he asserted, underscoring Ocean Soaps’ long-term dedication to promoting hygiene practices.

The donation, featuring Bodyguard Antibacterial Bars, will be distributed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, aimed at instilling healthy hygiene habits among students. This initiative encourages kids to wash their hands regularly, particularly before meals, after using the restroom, and following outdoor activities.

Mr. Jadhav emphasized that their hygiene products, which include a variety of soaps like Bodyguard and MedX, are crucial for maintaining household cleanliness and health in Fiji. He pointed out that these products not only clean but also eliminate germs, thereby reducing the risk of infections. The importance of handwashing has become even more prominent in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, where consistent hygiene practices are essential for protecting families and communities.

Additionally, Mr. Jadhav noted that simple practices like handwashing can significantly reduce the transmission of diseases such as diarrhoea, influenza, typhoid, and respiratory infections, especially during Fiji’s cyclone season. Celebrating its 90th anniversary, the Punjas Group emphasizes community support as a core value in its business philosophy.

Recognizing the vital partnership with the Ministry of Health, Mr. Jadhav expressed gratitude to Mr. Rakesh Kumar for overseeing awareness campaigns in local schools and communities. He encouraged the children at the event to acknowledge that their health is in their hands and that regular handwashing with soap contributes to both personal and community wellness.

The Global Handwashing Day initiative exemplifies the collaboration between public and private sectors to enhance hygiene awareness and build healthier communities in Fiji. Programs like this inspire hope and illustrate that effective health measures can be raised when combined with educational efforts, fostering a culture of wellness among future generations.
