The National Weather Service has broadened a Heat Advisory for the Bay Area, effective Friday, as temperatures are projected to reach alarming highs. An update released on Wednesday now includes the Santa Cruz Mountains in the advisory, which also covers the interior valleys of the North Bay and East Bay, as well as the Santa Clara Valley. The advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday.

Forecasters anticipate that towns in the Santa Cruz Mountains, such as Ben Lomond and Boulder Creek, will experience temperatures climbing into the upper 90s. Other inland areas may see highs ranging from the upper 80s to higher 90s, with some remote inland locations potentially surpassing 100 degrees.

While the Weather Service does not expect this heat event to break records, they have highlighted that it could bring some of the year’s hottest temperatures for specific areas. Following this hot spell, a cooling trend is forecasted to begin Saturday, with temperatures returning closer to seasonal normals by Sunday and into the early part of next week.

To cope with the heat, the Weather Service has advised residents to stay hydrated, remain in air-conditioned environments when possible, and limit exposure to the sun. Additionally, they emphasize the importance of checking on vulnerable neighbors and relatives, and urge drivers to never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.

This advisory serves as a reminder for residents to prioritize their health and safety during intense heat, as measures taken now can help prevent heat-related illnesses.
